Diesel New Voices presents a short film on Skateistan directed by Orlando von Einsiedel.

Skateistan is Afghanistan’s—and the world’s—first co-educational skateboarding school. The

school engages growing numbers of urban and internally-displaced youth in Afghanistan through

skateboarding, and provides them with new opportunities in cross-cultural interaction,

education, and personal empowerment.

for my broadcast major, my group did a scene of two lovers from conflicting races, falling in love

and planning to elope. the premise strategically set in the turbulent kabul, afghanistan at the

start of the 1996 civil war. script was well-written by ameera and i'd like to think of it as a

modern day romeo+juliet and kite runner inspired. researching on the history of kabul was very

inspiring, for me personally, because prior to this i had very minimal knowledge about kabul

except for the fact that everyone has been fighting for the city for centuries now, because of its

good trade location, but in recent years continued being attacked by talibans.

watching this video about the state of kabul today, from where it was, to what it has been

through, is really heartwarming. (and i've always had a thing for skateboarding.) #givemehope

school is educational afterall. ha.
